Understanding Wireless Alarm Systems

There are currently many debates over the effectiveness of wireless alarm systems. In this article we will help you discover some of the benefits and disadvantages of adding wireless security systems to your home security.

Wireless alarm systems were first invented by a company called Daitem in the early 1980’s. Back then the technology used was obviously somewhat different to today. We have probably all heard the stories of batteries running out, wireless systems interfering with other systems within the home, like TV remotes, wireless door chimes etc. Whilst that used to be the case, modern wireless systems are now very thoroughly quality controlled, and this has resulted in a vastly improved performance in the last few years.

Ways to install wireless alarm systems

Wireless alarm systems can be very easily installed, which is probably their greatest feature. A professional fitting a basic system can sometimes have it installed and working in less than an hour. This of course, means much smaller labor charges for the actual fitting, although the initial cost of the wireless equipment is usually higher. Although hard wired systems can be made to appear ‘wireless’ because the wires can be so well concealed, this does take much longer for the fitter to achieve and therefore the labor costs are higher although the actual alarm system itself is often cheaper. How does a wireless alarm system work?

A wireless alarm system is based around a control unit. This is the only part of the procedure that is usually hard wired. The control unit will be positioned somewhere within your home, often in a hallway. It has to be quite close to your front door, in order that you have time to de-activate it when you enter the house.

* Once you have entered your security code into the control unit, the alarm is set.

* From this point, it is the job of the sensors that will have been placed by any doors and windows, to activate when a door or window is opened.

* It is also possible to have sensors fitted in your windows so that if the glass were to be shattered in an effort to gain entry, the alarm will still go off.

* If the alarm were to activate in error, you will just need to go to your control panel and reset it.

It is also possible to install wireless CCTV cameras which can include 24 hour video surveillance, or can record only when a motion sensor is activated. These can be relatively expensive, but can give you even greater peace of mind, and of course can be extended throughout your yard area.

Overall there are many security features that can be used wirelessly and with modern technological developments fully functioning wireless alarm systems can last your family a long time.
