Choosing A Wireless Camera

«
»

Wireless cameras are very effective at providing security for your home or office and are quick and easy to install. There are many types of wireless cameras, such as a nanny cam, night vision, and video sunglasses. With so many wireless cameras on the market it can be difficult to choose among them. Finding a wireless camera to meet your needs does not have to be hard, but it will take a little patience.

Plan out the way you would like to set up your wireless system. Figure out where you would like to place the wireless camera and where you are going to set up the receiver. Keeping the wireless camera within 30 to 40 meters of the receiver is best to ensure a good wireless signal. If the distance is longer than this you will want to purchase a wireless camera with a built in antenna for long distances.

Note the amount of light that is available for the wireless camera. Check the lux rating on the wireless camera. This is the rating given according to the camera’s ability to operate in low amounts of light. The higher the lux rating, the more light the camera needs to transmit a good picture. If the wireless camera is in extremely low lighting, consider getting an infrared camera.Infrared cameras provide a clear picture even in complete darkness.

Look for a wireless camera that is weather and tamper resistant. The housing of the camera should protect it from the sun, sand, rain, hail, snow, and vandalism. If you live in a hot climate, you will want a wireless camera with a built-in fan. If you live in colder weather, look for a camera with a built-in heater.
