Here at Computer Controlled Security, we take great pride in the ability to monitor your home’s security through a variety of alarm systems. One of the many devices that can be monitored through our alarm systems is one that has proven to save thousands of lives each year: Carbon Monoxide detectors.
What is carbon monoxide?
Carbon monoxide is a gas that is known as the “silent killer” because it is odorless, tasteless and colorless. Since it is toxic, it can prevent your body from properly transporting oxygen. If inhaled in high amounts, carbon monoxide poisoning can happen quickly. It can also occur slowly if toxic gas levels build up over time. Any home appliance that uses gas produces carbon monoxide.
If you have any of these and you probably do, then there is potential for carbon monoxide in your home. In order to provide your family with maximum protection, you should invest in at least one Carbon Monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide detectors, also known as CO alarms, function in the same way as smoke alarms do. If carbon monoxide levels are present in your home, the detector will make a beeping sound to alert you.
Where Should I Place My CO Alarms?
Wherever you have an appliance that runs on fuel, you should also have a CO alarm. Carbon Monoxide mixes in with the air, so we are most vulnerable to the effects of CO poisoning while we sleep. If you only have one CO alarm, place it as close to everyone’s sleeping area as possible. Ideally, you should have a carbon monoxide detector in the following places:
If your furnace is located in the basement, make sure to place a CO detector there also.
Your family’s safety is our top priority at Computer Controlled Security. Our alarm systems are capable of monitoring not only the top-of-the-line burglar alarms, but smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors as well. Security means more to us than just preventing break-ins, so don’t hesitate to call us with any questions you might have about protecting your family’s home and health.
