This past weekend, I had the privilege of meeting with a family interested in hiring a nanny for their baby. This is their first child, so they wanted to make sure that they had all the information to make the right decision.
Because this is their first time doing anything like this, they had a lot of questions – lots of great questions at that. One of them was about Nanny Cams. He wanted to know what I thought about them.
So, I thought I would share my thoughts here with all of you.
Nanny cams can be a great tool for parents if used in the right way. You want to ALWAYS be upfront with your prospective nanny or current nanny about your intentions when it comes to having a nanny cam. If you have one, tell them before they start working for you.
Nanny cams can be useful to parents who want to use it to help put your mind at ease, to be able to check in on your child(ren) here and there during the day, it’s perfect. It can definitely be hard in the beginning to have someone you don’t know, in your home at first. Having the ability to check in, can and will help your ease the transition and help you relax more at work.
With that said, one thing you don’t want to do is get a nanny cam because you DON’T trust your nanny. If that is the case, you should follow your instincts. Either do not hire the person you are interviewing or let your current nanny go. You don’t need to have a nanny cam to follow your heart or instincts because you will more often than not be right.
So there is my two sense on Nanny Cams!
